My friend and I started aerobics yesterday, and after our warm up the teacher said if we'd like to pause to drink some water to go ahead and do so real swift. When I went to grab my bottle my friend told me not to, that you shouldn't drink water while working out because it cools you back down and your body has to work harder to get back to where it was… I see what she is saying, and it does seem to make sense… However, it also seems absurd to me NOT to drink water for an entire hour of working out, because I know that it's important to stay hydrated…

Answer:
Your friend is nuts. You need water. Without water during extended exercise, lots of bad things could happen to you, starting out with cramps, leading to much worse.

Answer:

Answer:

just a sip of water is ok…dont drink the whole bottle!

Answer:
no its not true.

Answer:
This is incorrect - and depending on how hard you’re working there are other things that you might want to drink instead of water…

– If you find that you are sweating a lot and you tend to feel fatigued or get muscle cramps, get an electrolyte replacement drink.

– If you have a long resistance training workout, or an long intense cardio session and just need energy to keep yourself going, mix yourself a recovery drink before hand to sip on during the session. This is typically a 4:1 mix of carbs to whey protein with something on the order of 20g carbs and 5g protein. Anymore than this and it will slow you down.

The water is not going to cool you down, you muscles are what are warmed up and generating heat. Rehydrating yourself will not cool these down.

Good luck!!
