I mixed a relaxer kit earlier but I decided not to put it in because I had a lot going on but now that things calmed down a bit I would like to go ahead and apply the relaxer. My hair is dry now but I know that people normally apply it on dirty hair. Has anyone ever done this?
If it is not suggested, can I save the kit since i already mixed it?
Answer:
Can you? Yes you can. SHould you? No you shouldn't. You should wait at least 24 hours after scratching your head or washing your hair before applying a perm because it opens your pores and the perm can burn your scalp, which means that you might not be able to leave it on for a long enough time to get your hair totally straight. Now, whether or not you can use something several hours after you've mixed it is something I don't know - I've never done my own perms.
I concur with the person below me. If you can stretch your relaxer beyond the estimated 6-8 weeks then this is recommended because it's healthier for your hair. Many people stretch their relaxers for several months and they flat iron the new growth. Be careful with flat irons and make sure you always use a good heat protector when you use one. Also, don't use a very high heat setting. YOu can get heat damage and this can make your hair fall out - been there, done that. If you want to learn more about flat ironing, IF you don't already, then go to youtube and search for Flat Ironing Relaxed Hair and you'll encounter many tutorials. There are also tutorials from those who stretch their relaxers for several months at a time.
Answer:
DO NOT USE ON FRESHLY WASHED HAIR. As it says on the box, not unless you want to find your hair on the pillow in the morning.
I would suggest you dash it out, tomorrow go and buy some good hair straitening product and a pair of £10 hair straighteners.
I had my hair in braids for 10 years and was faced with the same dilemma. I got £5.00 hair straighteners on the advice of a teenager and now use the straighteners no more than 3 times a week.
Hair is still in good condition but I do avoid the rain.
