I feel guilty. hah. =x
Answer:
I’m also an only child and this year as a freshman i decided to stay home at go to college here but I greatly regret my decision and I am transferring to go away to college for my sophmore year. I encourage you to go away to college. Dont feel guilty. Going away is a large part in growing up and im sure your parents will actually enjoy some time alone together and when you come back to visit it is even more special.

Leave during the night??? IDK that's a hard one. It's your life though and you need to do what’s right for you. You do have a lot on your shoulders though. I envision it would be hard to be an only child and have to take care of your parents' emotional needs all alone. I’m one of three siblings and if I go more than two days without calling my father, he thinks I fell off the face of the earth:) I would go away to college but plan to go back home to find a job. Your parents would really be heartbroken if their only child moved away to start a career and a family, but ultimately you do what you need to do and speak to your parents about your plans. It's quite normal to feel guilty, they are your parents and they love you and you love them.
