My sister's debutante ball was coming up, but she didn't want to go. My mom, however, was adamant that she would. They fought about it for days, and then my mum threatened to shoot Margo's horse! So she reluctantley went to the ball. I don't think that was fair; she shouldn't have to go if she doesn't want to! What are your thoughts?
Answer:
my thoughts are: “it stinks!”
Answer:
people still do debutante balls?
wasn't that originally to showcase your daughter was now of marriage age and would the richest son-in-law please set up? (see the link below)
even if everything was already paid for, no one should have to do anything they don't want to do. I don't know your mother well enough to say if she would have shot the horse or not; and without that detail I couldn't possibly say if it's bad or not.
Answer:
This is not an answer, but a question… (You may all be thinking, “What a silly ignorant American”, but…
Answer:
Jesus! That's a bit far! Even if she didn't mean it, no need for that.
*edit*
But did your mum already pay for a dress and make-up or whatever? I had the same situation with my mum. She bought me an £80 dress and some costly shoes and I decided I didn't want to go. She made me go.
Answer:
Threating a living thing is awful, human or not. Your mom is a Debutante? She surely isn't acting like one. Kind of a WE are better than YOU thing to me (the ball thing) and I do not support anything like that.
Answer:
i don't. she wouldnt have shot the horse either, she would have just been pissed off. by the way why was she so reluctant to going… balls are really not that serious.
Answer:
Debutante Ball???
Really??
I thought people stopped doing those…you know…like back in 1956?
Answer:
yes that’s bad parenting.
maybe she wouldn't actually shoot the horse. maybe she would. your sister sounds like a young adult, its time for her to be one.
Answer:
yes i think it is terrible parenting! i think that if margo didn't want to go she shouldn't have!her mom can't live her life for her.
Answer:
I doubt she actually meant it. However, forcing her to go wasn’t right. This isn’t 1934. It's hard enough being a teenage girl today.
Answer:
damn your mother sounds like a bit*h! WTF?! yes that is bad parenting
you don't threatening something like that
sounds like ur mother needs a mental institute
Answer:
Your mom is a bad parent, but sounds rich, so good luck getting someone to listen…
Answer:
What did the horse ever do to deserve those kind of threats?Poor horsie! Bad mommy!
Answer:
I don't think she should have made her, was there some other girls there that would make fun of her or something?
Answer:
i don't think it was right for your mom to FORCE your sister to go but what can you do?
Answer:
wtf? ummm okayyy
Answer:
What kind of logic is that? The poor horse gets the raw deal. I hate it when people resort to saying stuff like that. That's white trash.
It won't kill her to go. She might regret if she doesn't. I think she should go. It's one of those events in life. It's one day. She's very lucky. Cry me a river you know. Keep it in perspective. She sounds very spoiled and unappreciative. It's one day/night. Get over it. It will be fine. She might have a nice time. It could happen. If not then it's what she makes of it.
Soon she’ll be an adult calling the shots. Patience. All in good time. This is character building.
