Is it unethical to spank your kids in public?

I don't enjoy it when parents spank their children in public places and cause a scene. My mother used to do that to me when I was a child and my heart aches for the kids who I see get spanked in public.

What would you do if you saw a child at the store or a public place screaming hysterically at their parent, “Leave me alone!”?

I think parents who spank their children in public are ignorant. If a child is acting up, the parent should do their best to calm them down by taking them aside and TALKING calmly to them. I heard a woman yelling at her kid in the parking lot of krogers the other day and i was disgusted. She sounded and looked so stupid.

Unless you see somebody beating their kid and it's more than just a spanking, mind your own business. We all know how children can dramatize. A kid could say leave me alone b/c he's a manipulator and a brat. A child that’s actually beat doesn't react this way. In today's society, people are too much in each other's business and good old fashioned spanking is frowned upon.

I have a 2 year old. I don't “spank” her but I will pop her to get her attention, whether in public or not. If I saw a child screaming at there parent in public, I would do nothing. If you let your child behave that way then it's your problem. That child isn’t being disciplined properly. Discipline means to instruct, not to punish.

Honestly if I see a woman spank a child on the rear I walk right past. If I see a woman slap her kid across the face or kick the child Im going to jail for hitting the woman. Spanking is legal and shouldnt be offensive. Abuse is not and should be stopped by everyone.

If I see a parent disciplining their child in public, I'm going to walk right past them. If I see a parent abusing their child in public, I will stop it.

I hate to see children spanked in public but I guess some parents feel they have no other option. It does cause a massive scene and I personally would never do it.

” wait till we get home “

Well if you discipline your child at home and not in public then they believe it's alright to act out there. Personally if your form of discipline is spanking then spank your child in public. I'm not saying beat your child in public, I would rather you not beat them at all really. If you put your child in time out at home then making them go to the vehicle with someone when out or just flat out leaving is like the same thing.
