i just got mine pierced and the guy stated to clean it with salt water but i was wondering if there was any difference in what kind of salt to use? does it matter? are there any kind of salts to avoid putting in the water to clean it? in my house i have sea salt and regular table salt. i just dont want to stick the wrong thing in my nose.

Answer:
use the sea salt

table salt is iodized and iodized salt isn’t good for piercings

You should be mixing 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt per 8 oz of water.

another tip, if your piercer didn't already tell you this…make your solution in a shot glass or a small Dixie cup. Put your nose in the sea salt solution and exhale through your nose. Do this for at least 5 minutes twice a day. Its the easiest way to do your sea salt soaks with a septum (or even nostril) piercing.

if your piercing gets super crusty, you might be mixing too much sea salt, in which case, just don't put in as much. Your solution should never be saltier than your natural tears.

Answer:
rock salt (table salt) doesn't really have the same properties as sea salt does

it can help sterilize it, but it just wont do the job as well as sea salt

also, clean your nose with regular dial or softsoap… any scent-less antibacterial soap will help too

if you go to the store, there might be a product called H2ocean, specifically for piercings, it's a blue spray can with a mer-man trident guy on it
