I really want a tongue piercing. I heard that it isn't painful but that it swells up and that its hard to talk and eat. That I can live with. But I'm afraid of getting an infection or something. Also how much does it generally cost?
Answer:
Infections are very rare - if you're going to worry about everything that can go wrong with it, you'll never get anything done. The vast majority of piercings are totally unproblematic - the rare cases where something like infection happens is usually brought on by the person themselves through total lack of care (changing bars within a day or two, not cleaning the bar they insert, smoking, playing with the piercing and generally aggravating it) - as long as you're careful and look after it, you'll be fine.
I was very young when I got mine done and went totally against everything the piercer told me about aftercare (drank alcohol, didn't suck ice-cubes or use mouthwash or brush it while I was brushing my teeth, or generally look after it in any way shape or form - which I DON'T recommend, but which did me no harm whatsoever - it healed fine and has never been infected in the five years it's been there)
It swells up for about a week, after that you're back to normal and once you get your bar changed down from the initial piercing bar, it won't be uncomfortable and you'll soon get used to it.

i say go for it!! i got mine pierced 3 weeks ago and it didnt injured. and mine didnt swell that bad because i didnt talk a lot, i didnt try to play with it, and i keep my head elevated while sleeping. as far as eating i ate a lot of apple sauce for the first 3 days. after that i learned that all i had to do was put the food directly on my molars so my tongue wouldnt have to work as hard!! and as long as you rinse after eating or drinking ANYTHING other than ice or water….its nearly impossible to get an infection. im using biotene mouth wash and its GREAT! mine cost 35 to get pierced!! hope this helped!!
Answer:
£15, barely hurts, but it does swell quite a bit, making it harder to speak and eat for about 3 days.
use mouth-wash after EVRERYTHING you eat for the first 2 weeks, and infection wont be a problem.
