I was eating lunch today and I overheard these 2 women speaking about their children. One of the ladies said that a few nights ago her child was misbehaving so when she prepared the bath water for her child (I have no idea how old this child is) that she put the water as cold as she could. So for the child being bad, the child was bathed in COLD water. I know it would be considered abuse if the child was bathed in scolding hot water but is the opposite true of cold water? I just found this to be disturbing. I have a 3 yr old step daughter who lives with me full time and I would never consider punishing her by freezing her in a bath. Views?
Answer:
I’ve to agree with you this isn’t right. I would consider it abuse, if not for the physical aspects but mentally. Knowing you parent would do this to you would seriously due damage. I don't know if if it would be legally considered abuse becasuse parents get away with a lot sometimes.
Answer:
That's a very strange way to discipline your child. I very much believe in discipline, but I don't think that's a good way. My mom would try to have the punishment match the crime, but I can't think of a crime where putting your child in freezing water is the correct punishment. I don't think I would turn them into child protective services, but I would definitely not advocate doing that. It seems care about it would make the child fear the parent, and that is never what should happen in discipline. Your child should never fear you, they should learn to respect. That's a heartbreaking thought, a child freezing in the tub. I would have to take a cold bath if I had a fever that wouldn't go down with medicine. I've had to give my boys cold baths for the same reason, but it was more like luke warm and they were sweating so they enjoyed it.
Answer:
I would say yes. Cold baths have several negative side effects that can affect the health of young kids (see the attached source article for more info.) In this case, I'm sure they’ve no intention to harm the child - but negligant abuse is still abuse all the same.
On a side note, taking something that should be positive - such as a bath - and turning it into a punishment just seems stupid. Its hard enough to get children to bathe regularly in the first place; the last thing you'd want to do is associate bath time with pushiment.
Answer:
NO. Depending on the child't age, he/she probably liked it anyway because it's like being in a swimming pool
Answer:
i guess but no really it would be differnt if it was boiling hot water but it is just a form of disaplin just leave it i know its hard but you dont want to pick up the wrong story
Answer:
I would think about this to be abusive. And we wonder why some kids grow-up to be messed-up adults, look at the role models. P.s. That poor child could not have been older then 5 or 6 years old if she was still preparing bath water.
Answer:
How mean! I would think about it abusive. Only a fool would consider that an effective punishment.
Answer:
I would think so. hot… cold… or dirty water is child abuse! but then so is spanking to some! It would all depend on the parents and what the law says!
Answer:
Thats horrible. I would never do that to my daughter for misbehaving. That sounds a little like abuse to me, especially if she does it a lot
Answer:
absolutely it is child abuse. she would have been confronted myself then i would have got her plate number and turned her in.
Answer:
That IS definatley child abuse its the same as putting a child in hot water it can still make the child ill.
Answer:
if it was an ice bath it would be considered abuse but if it was just cold water, then no.
Answer:
technically it would not be considered child abuse in a court of law.. but personally hell yes that would be abuse.

Answer:

Answer:
Why wouldn't that be child abuse? I don't know about you but, I don't think that's not a good discipline method.
Answer:
