I’ve a daughter who will be 3 and a half by Christmas and I was just wondering if any of had any good ideas for Christmas gifts. The prices of everything are going up non stop but we still want to give her a great Christmas, so I was just looking for any suggestions and arts and crafts projects that we have the ability to do regarding Christmas and do you plan on having a budget for Christmas or just spending whatever it takes ? Thanks

My Christmas has always been on a budget (my daughter is now 4)…what I’ve learned is that they LOVE athmosphere and the “magic” of Christmas more than anything….invest in a few cd's of Christmas music….really adds a special something if you have carols or fun christmas songs on whilst you do your preperations together. They love to make and decorate cookies…icing and sweets…they love to make gummed paper chains…it is simple and you get great retro decorations to hang up afterward. You can easily make fun christmas snow globes using a jar…some plastic figurines and water and glitter….you just stick the figures to the lid, fill with water and glitter and screw the lid on. Make your own xmas wrapping paper out of a roll of wall lining paper and using paint and potato stampers…make xmas cards….sing carols together whilst you do all this. Go for a walk in the woods and collect dry branches, pine cones, whatever you can find…take them home and stick the branches in a pot with some playdoh…then add glue and glitter to the branches and decorate with pine cones and other natural stuff….looks really good in the hall…I find it is these activities they remember more than the massive presents. http://www.craftster.org has some great crafting ideas for Christmas!
Answer:
Have her help put up decorations and christmas ornaments. Buy some cheap wood holiday cutouts (found at many craft stores) and help her paint them, then hang them on your tree. Christmas is a holiday that doesn't have to be all about gifts- she can have a lot of fun making christmas cookies, gingerbread houses, and making cards for the family. Any toys that you’ll purchase for her, she’ll not remember unless it was very meaningful to her, so you can just buy a stuffed animal and then a few other cheaper things. Christmas doesn't have to be high-priced.

What I try to do in terms of gifts is this:I take the two things I know they would like to have the most and then get a bunch of inexpensive things so that they will have a lot to open.Like coloring books, crayons, pjs, puzzles, etc…Your daughter is only 3 so believe me when I say that she cares more about ripping it open then what’s actually in there!
I’ve an annual decoration night with my boys.I make cookies while they are at school. They come home we put on Christmas music and go nuts decorating while drinking hot chocolate and eating our cookies. For arts and crafts you can do a ton of stuff.Pick up some foam picture frames (even walmart has them)make frames or but a puzzle from the dollar store and have your daughter paint the pieces, then glue them together randomly and make picture ornaments. For my children instructors we usually purchase some adorable wooden ornaments form the dollar store and personalize them with the name. Here is a good web site.Good luck and Merry Christmas!

My 3 1/2 year old daughter adores to make necklaces for everyone. You can pick up necklace making kits from the dollar store. It's fun for the children and a great way to improve hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills. There’s also no shame in going second hand - check ebay, amazon and your local craigslist.com for great deals on toys that are still on stores shelves. Good luck.
