Answer:
my kids were all over the map on that one:
My oldest didn’t state much of anything until 22 months, then he learned like several words a day until he was caught up .
My daughter was starting to say words at 12-15 months old, and by 18 months was saying “juice peas” ( juice please) and simple stuff like that.
My youngest was saying a few things around 12-15 months, but didn’t get past 10 words until he was 2 years old. we found out at 27 months that he has verbal apraxia. Once he started signing and speech therapy his vocabulary took off and he was pretty much caught up within 9 months.
“normal” speech development is first words at 12-15 months…2 dozen words at 18 months old…5 dozen words and 2-3 word sentences at 24 months old. If you’re in the US and worried about your childs development you can always contact your local early intervention program and ask for a developmental evaluation to be done just to make sure.Since it is a federally funded program it is generally free/low cost regardelss of income. It is actually based on the need of the child! The local WIC clinic or health department can give you the contact info.
Answer:
It all depends on the child. My oldest son had the vocabulary of an 8 yr old at 1 , but he didn't walk until he was 22 mos. My youngest son is 1 & he walks but doesn't talk much, my 2 year old twins were climbing things at 7 mos but they didn't really speak clearly until about 4 mos ago. Babies get fixated on one thing at a time, when they master it , they move on…..p.s. my oldest is not delayed, he's an honor roll student and very athletic now.
Answer:
My son didn't speak until his 2nd birthday and he has not quit yet. He is now 23 and still speaking. I know you’re in a rush to hear those first words, but enjoy the quiet while you can. Next will be the “BUT WHY?'s and you’ll wish for the quiet again.

Putting words together to form a sentence (2 or more words) is 15 months to 2 years old. That's a pretty massive spread, but that's what I’ve seen in my children and am now seeing in my grandchildren.
